Tuesday, 27 January '09: This is my world

Here is my world - blesbuck are grazing in the Austen Roberts' Nature Reserve and Bird Sanctuary which is at walking distance from my house in Pretoria. I loved the way this blesbuck stared at me curiously when I hopped out of the car on my way to a lunch time appointment at the local bank. The Sanctuary is bordered by busy roads, two lovely malls of shops and upmarket eating places.

When my granddaughters are visiting, we always make a visit to Austen Roberts to feed the birds and the giant tortoise.

Actually I find these lovely antelope a driving hazard as I dash past in my car! I always am tempted to take my eyes right off the road to gaze at their calm beauty when they wander near the fence.

Join others throughout the globe who are Show Your World on this Tuesday!

  5. What a wonderful sight! I would love to see these types of animals out roaming, but then I would spend all of my time outside watching!

Thank you for sharing these with us, Eleanor. They are lovely.

  7. What beautiful animals - and so lucky you are to be able to drive past them! I have to go to the Zoo, which I never do! Animals like that are supposed to be free in their own environment. Thank you so much for sharing this beutiful sight!

  9. If I were there I would be stopping at the side of the road to watch them, probably for hours at a time. Although I think wild animals should be out in the wild, in today's world they are not safe from poachers or a habitat being encroached upon by humans. It is better to have them co-exist in a large field with grass and trees than to have them become extinct in the wild.

  15. Gosh, what a treat to see in one's everyday life! Truly a wonderful place where you live, isn't it?

  16. Fancy having such exotic looking wildlife right at the side of the road. All I see are rabbits, and those pesky grey squirrels who, for some reason, often run the wrong way right under one's car! It's amazing that so many of them miss the wheels and survive!

Perhaps you don't even need to visit a zoo Eleanor - methinks it comes to you!!

Hope life is good in your beautiful land.
    Hugs - Mary.
