What are the colours of December?
Red, green, gold and the silvery-white of fresh snow?
Hardly! December (on this Blue Monday) conjures up the most gorgeous blues here in the gardens, parks and streets of South African cities, towns and dorpies (villages). Everywhere banks of indigeneous agapanthus lift their large rounded heads of blue (or white) tubular flowers. Low maintainenance and hardy, the agapanthus may have been successfully introduced to Europe in the 17th century but it hails from this part of the world. December is a mass of blue blooms transparent under the rays of the hot summer sun. This year on the Highveld we are having a garden feast after downpours from almost daily storms have turned our world green, green, green!

Have a super week - love those blues - here, everything is white, or a shade of (snow covered or almost..!), at the moment..!
Lovely! Such beauty! Thank you for sharing that, and I also loved seeing your picture! Here's wishing you...
Happy Blue Monday!

P.S. I love your dogs, too!
FLOWERS BLOOMING HERE ON THE SHORES OF LONG ISLAND, NY?...HARDLY!! WE HAD OUR FIRST SNOW FALL YESTERDAY. VERY LITTLE THOUGH! I DO ENJOY THE CHANGE OF SEASONS, BUT AT TIMES, I WOULD LOVE TO EXCHANGE IT FOR A BEAUTIFUL HOME SUCH AS YOURS WHERE IT'S SUNNY AND WARM! HAVE A WONDERFUL MONDAY! RITA
I love your blog! What a breath of fresh air to see your flowers....we have about 3-4 inches of snow, cold winds and brrrrrrr! Thanks for sharing.
Becky
Oh, yes...you are all very beautiful, just like all the blue flowers...great blue post....
I love your blue blooms. They look at bit like plumbago which is in bloom here. Your group looks like a good one. You should adopt a name: Needled Nellies, Smiling Sewers, or Embroidered Eleanor & and the Gang. Happy Blue Monday!
Hi Eleanor, I do so wish it were spring time here . I am not a winter person.
I love the pictures in today's post, but I admit to being terribly distracted by your beautiful dogs.
Happy Blue Monday!
Those are some of my favorite flowers. I love how they attract the bees. It's fall here and I'm loving it. Cooler temps and we've still got flowers blooming too, but who knows for how long? I'm a lucky one. Very mild fall/winter seasons here :0)
I'll bet your ladies luncheon was a grand time and I have to admit right now, your dogs keep distracting me. They're precious!
Thank you for your visit to my posts. I love you blues too. What are you and your stitching friends making? I would love to see those. Happy Blue Monday!
Oh how very lovely your blue blooms are in South Africa! I love the photo of all the "girls" enjoying your get together!! Enjoy your time off...
The blue flowers are gorgeous. It is 18 degrees here this morning so beautiful flowers are months away. Thanks for sharing the picture of the embroidery girls. It looks like you're having fun. Happy Blue Monday!
Sweetie
Beautiful BLUE flowers! Enjoy your time off! ~Rhonda :)
Beautiful flowers make me wish for spring which will not arrive here for another four months. More snow is predicted for tomorrow. It would be lovely to live six months in your neck of the woods while the winter winds blow.
It's so fun to see your lush colorful December. What a contrast to ours! All you ladies look so lovely.
Eleanor, it was so nice to "meet" you today! I just came over to say that and to thank you for the sweet comments you left for me. I also just noticed that picture of your parakeet. He might need to be a Blue Monday post if he hasn't already! :-) I had a green one named Sidney, and we had a blue one as children named Budgie... how novel! ;-)
Anyhow, it was lovely meeting you. I hope to see you again.
XO,
Sheila
What a fun way to visit the other side of the globe. Thanks for sharing your beautiful blue blooms. I bet it is just beautiful to see a sea of them all together. Sounds like you ladies had a fun luncheon. Hope your Blue Monday was just as fun! ~ Robyn
Agapanthus is one of my favourite flowers. I was just admiring ours this morning when having my breakfast on the front porch. I know they are indigenous to the Eastern Cape and I always get a kick seeing them growing in the wild, even though they are fairly common garden plants now. Yours look spectacular
