Sunday, 25 January '09: 'He made their glowing colours...'

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures bright and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colours,
He made their tiny wings.

The purple headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset and the morning,
Brightens up the sky.

The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one.

He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell
How great is God Almighty,
Who has done all things well.

Mrs CF Alexander

This was the first hymn I ever remember singing! Still love it!

I do love the hymn, but I remember most the series of books with pieces of this hymn for titles. Did you ever read any of them?

Hello, dear one. Yes, I know that feeling. I put in about 4-5 hours of grading this weekend and still not finished. :) Never mind the meetings this week and other bric a brac. Hope you are well. The hymn is lovely. Thank you for being a sweet point of inspiriation, my little African flower.

Our childhoods, although distanced by thousands of miles, seem to be almost parallel at times Eleanor. This was the very first hymn I remember also.......and how I loved singing those very special, yet quite simple words, along with my little Brit classmates. Thanks for another lovely memory.

Is that a Nelly Moser clematis? I have one just like it but it's sleeping now and won't show it's beautiful face for several months.

Yes, if YOU win my giveaway at the end of this week I would love to deliver your goodies in person! How fabulous that would be.....and Bob would encourage me to make the trip - he's always looking for affordable air fares!!!!

I think tapestries still look lovely faded and worn. My piece in the frame is supposedly from an old French chair, it's somewhat threadbare but still so pretty.

Have a fabulous week Eleanor.
Warm hugs - Mary.
